Hyssop Press is proud to announce that we have signed acclaimed author Gibson Monk to our roster. His highly anticipated novel Las Animas High will be released in 2025. This marks an exciting new chapter for both Monk and our press, as we continue to expand our commitment to exceptional storytelling.
Set in the modern-day, small town of Las Animas, Colorado, Las Animas High follows a group of high school friends as they navigate the complexities of youth, friendship, and first love. The novel blends elements of Native American mythology and traditional fairy tale lore, creating a unique narrative that mixes coming-of-age themes with a touch of the supernatural.
Gibson Monk is an accomplished author whose short stories have appeared in notable literary journals such as Sixfold, Zahir, and Helios. His unique voice and masterful storytelling have earned him recognition across genres, and Las Animas High promises to be no exception.
Monk, a resident of Virginia, is also an adjunct professor at the University of Mary Washington. His non-fiction work, written under the name Matthew Franks, has been featured in The Graduate Journal of Harvard Divinity School and Past the Sky’s Rim: The Elder Scrolls and Theology (Gray Matter Books). His debut science fiction thriller, Entanglement, follows a group of Virginia gamer kids as they uncover a tech conspiracy. For more information on Entanglement, visit entanglement.online.
